Why this resume works

  • Volume and quality together. "45–60 inquiries per shift" shows pace; "94% customer satisfaction" shows quality. Employers want both.
  • Languages are a real asset. Spanish is listed and also used in the experience (the Spanish-speaking queue).
  • Tools are named. Zendesk, Salesforce Service Cloud and Shopify POS match what many postings list.
  • Initiative is shown, not claimed. A script improvement adopted by the team lead and training new associates.

Weak vs. strong customer service bullets

Before

Answered customer calls.

After

Resolved 45–60 billing and service inquiries per shift across phone and chat while keeping a 94% satisfaction score.

Before

Dealt with angry customers.

After

Handled escalated calls for the Spanish-speaking queue and documented outcomes clearly so customers didn't have to repeat themselves.

Before

Trained new staff.

After

Trained five seasonal associates on POS procedures and the store's return policy.

Skills customer service postings ask for

  • Channels: phone, email, live chat, in person, social media.
  • Tasks: returns and exchanges, billing questions, account changes, complaint resolution, upselling.
  • Tools: Zendesk, Salesforce, Freshdesk, Shopify or Square POS, Microsoft 365.
  • Languages: list them with a level; they're a strong differentiator in Canada.
  • Also show how you work: accurate notes, clean handoffs, policy knowledge, and calm escalation handling. Those details help employers see that your service quality is repeatable, not just based on being friendly.

Common mistakes

  • A list of soft skills ("friendly, patient, team player") with no examples.
  • Every job described with the same duties.
  • Missing availability when the role involves shifts (add it under additional information).
  • No tools named, even though the posting lists several.

Frequently asked questions

What if my experience is only in retail?

Retail is customer service experience. Describe the volume, the problems you solved, and the systems you used.

Should I include availability on my resume?

For shift-based roles, a short line ("Available evenings and weekends") can help. Otherwise leave it for the application form.

Is the Modern template appropriate for customer service?

Yes. It's clear and professional, with dates in a separate column that makes a job history easy to scan.
